Syzygy Plasmonics partners with LOTTE and SCOA to test chemical reactor technology

Partnerships

  • Syzygy Plasmonics (Syzygy), a developer of photocatalytic chemical reactors for fuel cell vehicles and small-scale industrial applications, entered into a joint development agreement with LOTTE Chemical, LOTTE Fine Chemical (a South Korean chemical company), and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (SCOA), an oil and energy provider, to test a fully electric chemical reactor to produce clean hydrogen.

  • The chemical reactor will be deployed at LOTTE Chemical headquarters (HQ) in Ulsan, South Korea and will be operational by the second half of 2023.

Analyst QuickTake: Syzygy had previously collaborated with SCOA followed by the latter’s investment in Syzygy during 2019. The previous partnership leveraged Syzygy’s platform reactor technology replacing heat with light from ultra-high-efficiency LEDs to power chemical reactors. The new installation at the LOTTE Chemical HQ is reported to be Syzygy’s first deployment a commercial scale.
