Syzygy Plasmonics (Syzygy), a developer of photocatalytic chemical reactors for fuel cell vehicles and small-scale industrial applications, entered into a joint development agreement with LOTTE Chemical, LOTTE Fine Chemical (a South Korean chemical company), and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (SCOA), an oil and energy provider, to test a fully electric chemical reactor to produce clean hydrogen.
The chemical reactor will be deployed at LOTTE Chemical headquarters (HQ) in Ulsan, South Korea and will be operational by the second half of 2023.
Analyst QuickTake: Syzygy had previously collaborated with SCOA followed by the latter’s investment in Syzygy during 2019. The previous partnership leveraged Syzygy’s platform reactor technology replacing heat with light from ultra-high-efficiency LEDs to power chemical reactors. The new installation at the LOTTE Chemical HQ is reported to be Syzygy’s first deployment a commercial scale.
