Perfect Day, a California-based producer of animal-free dairy using precision fermentation, has partnered with the world’s largest publicly held food company Nestlé to trial an unnamed alternative-milk beverage made using animal-free dairy protein, which is set to launch at selected stores later this year.
According to the company, the new beverage contains Perfect Day’s animal-free protein and is similar to whey protein found in its animal counterpart. Further, it is claimed to be lactose-free and suitable for vegans while possessing identical nutritional and functional benefits as that of conventional dairy.
The product was created by Nestlé’s Swiss R&D team and will be piloted through its newly formed US-based R&D accelerator which plans to market products with a high degree of differentiation in six months.
Analyst QuickTake: This partnership is the most recent for Perfect Day in 2022 where the company has provided its animal-free proteins for the production of alternative dairy. In May 2022, it partnered with Tomorrow Farms to launch “Bored Cow” animal-free dairy milk, followed by a partnership with Strive Nutrition for milk alternatives in June 2022 and with Myprotein in July 2022 for animal-free whey protein supplements. Apart from Nestlé, Perfect Day has also partnered with other global leaders such as Archer Daniels Midland (ADM).
