EasyMile, a France-based developer of autonomous vehicles and shuttles, has deployed its autonomous shuttles under the KelRide project, a publicly funded research project in Germany that launched an on-demand shuttle service in Kelheim district in Munich as a part of the public transport system.
The service will be offered on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm to facilitate autonomous vehicles in all weather conditions. The vehicles will travel at a maximum speed of around 12 mph with a safety driver on board to take control if needed.
The KelRide project is an initiative involving multiple partners including EasyMile, the district of Kelheim, TransitTech software provider Via, consultancy P3 Group, TÜV Rheinland, and the Technical University of Berlin. The project is backed by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) and will run until the end of 2023.
