Axiom Space, a provider of commercial human spaceflight services, collaborated with Maison Mumm, a French winemaker, to test and discover the tasting ritual of wine in Axiom's human spaceflight program and provide future space travelers the opportunity to enjoy champagne in space.
Maison Mumm revealed the final design of Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, the first champagne bottle which has achieved full compliance with space requirements certified by the CNES, after four years of R&D. The wine is protected by a stainless steel opening-closing mechanism and is contained in a half glass bottle. The shell which protects the glass bottle is made of aeronautical-grade aluminum.
