Cleaner Seas Group, a UK-based startup developing microfiber filters for washing machines to reduce microplastic pollution, has raised GBP 700,000 (~USD 784,150) from a crowdfunding campaign on CrowdCube.
The funds will be used to expand the company’s sales team. The company has already announced the appointment of Jeremy Skelton as their operations manager as part of their team expansion.
Cleaner Seas reports that it aims to generate GBP 1.3 million (~USD 1.45 million) in revenue in 2022 and GBP 45 million (~USD 50.4 million) by 2025 amidst growing demand for microplastic reduction.
The company also plans to raise an additional GBP 460,000 (~USD 514,670) to achieve a new crowdfunding goal of more than GBP 1 million (~USD 1.11 million), having exceeded its original fundraising goal of GBP 700,000 million.
Founded in 2018, Cleaner Seas Group is developing retrofit microfiber filters that can be connected to washing machines to filter microplastic particles from every washing cycle. The company claims to prevent up to 700,000 microplastic particles from entering water bodies per wash.
