Firefly Aerospace, a startup that designs, manufactures, and operates launch and spacecraft vehicles for small payloads, successfully launched its Alpha rocket to orbit in its second launch attempt.
The uncrewed Alpha rocket deployed 3 payloads with multiple small satellites for technology experiments and educational purposes. The company aborted an earlier launch attempt due to a drop in helium pressure. The company’s first launch attempt back in September 2021 failed mid-air as it went off course and had to be exploded.
The Alpha rocket is a 95-foot rocket designed to send up to 1,000kg into low Earth orbit (LEO). The company plans to launch twice a month for commercial customers priced at USD 15 million per launch.
