Loop Energy, a Canadian developer of hydrogen fuel cell modules and stacks for vehicle OEMs and power generation system manufacturers, has gained Opex/Hevolucion, a Colombian systems integrator of batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, and Avia Ingeniería, a Spanish electric powertrain provider and systems integrator, as customers. This expands Loop’s presence in Europe and provides entry to South America.
Both companies are developing medium-duty hydrogen-electric trucks and are looking to trial hydrogen-EVs in 2023. And as such, Loop will enter the pilot phase of the customer adoption cycle of both companies. Loop will provide its S300 (30 kW) fuel cells as range extenders for Opex’s logistics truck and Avia’s tractor-trailer transport truck.
Following this, Opex’s truck will be trialed by a local fleet operator to evaluate how the technology can be deployed in larger truck applications while Avia’s truck will be part of a project looking to demonstrate the feasibility of hydrogen technology and educate fleet operators on how to scale a fleet. Furthermore, a logistics fleet operator is expected to integrate Avia’s truck into its service routes in 2023.
