ZeroAvia, a hydrogen-based aviation solutions developer, has acquired HyPoint, a next-generation hydrogen fuel cell provider for air transportation. The financial details of the transaction were undisclosed.
The acquisition will integrate HyPoint’s advanced high-temperature fuel cell technology into ZeroAvia’s hydrogen-electric powertrain development.
Post the acquisition, HyPoint’s team of 40 employees will be transferred across ZeroAvia’s R&D development sites in Kemble, Gloucestershire, and HyPoint’s location in Sandwich, Kent. Moreover, HyPoint’s CEO Alex Ivaneko will also join ZeroAvia as GM overseeing vehicle take-off and landing (VTOL) and new segments.
The acquisition was announced on the heels of ZeroAvia’s agreement with PowerCell, a Swedish hydrogen fuel cell stacks and systems developer, to deliver 5,000 low-temperature proton-exchange-membrane (LTPEM) fuel cell stacks with deliveries beginning in 2024, with a potential value of up to SEK 1.51 billion (USD 0.13 billion)
Analyst QuickTake: ZeroAvia and HyPoint had previously co-developed and tested HTPEM fuel cell technology over the past years, with HyPoint relocating its bulk R&D activities into the UK in February 2022 to support the acquisition. The serial delivery of LTPEM hydrogen fuel cell stacks following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between ZeroAvia and PowerCell in July 2022 .
