EasyMile, a France-based developer of autonomous vehicles and shuttles, won a deal worth EUR 4 million (USD 3.9 million) from the Belgian investment firm LRM to deploy a fleet of 5–6 autonomous shuttles at tourist site Terhills in Belgium.
The shuttle service can be scaled up to Level 4 autonomous driving (i.e. fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations and/or conditions) and is expected to run all 7 days a week for up to 10 years. The shuttles will cover a 1.6-mile route connecting Terhills Hotel, Terhills Resort, and an upcoming walking and cycling bridge over a lake in the area. Initially, the shuttles will be deployed for 8 hours a day, with plans to increase operational time in the future.
A representative of LRM noted its plans to build the final outline for the transport system for the next 10 years by the summer of 2023 (June–September). It will also use data and feedback from users to build a sustainable business model.
