Ascend Elements signs MoU with EcoPro Group to supply recycled battery materials

Partnerships

  • Ascend Elements, a Massachusetts-based cathode material recycling company, and EcoPro Group, a leading South Korean battery materials company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which includes an agreement to jointly develop and integrate recycled battery materials into EcoPro’s cathode products.

  • Via the partnership, Ascend Elements will supply recycled battery materials to EcoPro Group, which will then convert them into battery-ready high-performance cathode-active materials (CAM) to supply to its clients, which include some of the largest battery manufacturers in North America. Battery manufacturers can reportedly reduce their climate impact using recycled battery materials instead of mining new materials.

  • Ascend Elements recently announced a USD 1 billion investment to build “Apex 1”, a sustainable lithium-ion battery materials facility in Kentucky. Apex 1 is expected to produce enough cathode-precursor and CAM to equip up to 250,000 electric vehicles per year.
