Rocket Lab selected by NASA’s JPL for CADRE mobile robot program

Partnerships

  • California-based Rocket Lab, an end-to-end space company providing services from launches to design and component manufacturing, has been selected by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) to supply solar panels for the power delivery of NASA’s mobile robots as a part of Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Explorers (CADRE) program.

  • Rocket Lab will use its inverted metamorphic multi-junction (IMM) solar cells for this project which are claimed to be more efficient and lightweight than standard multi-junction solar cells while providing exact requirements for the program.

  • CADRE program is slated to fly aboard a commercial robotic lander within the next five years as a technology demonstration through NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload (CLP) initiative.
