LØCI, a British startup producing biodegradable sneakers made from recycled plastic materials, has raised GBP 4 million (~USD 4.62 million) in a seed funding round. Investors including celebrity actor Leonardo DiCaprio participated in the round.
The funds are expected to support the company in its mission to make sustainable fashion affordable and accessible.
The company sources raw materials and manufactures its sneakers in Europe and produces them on a monthly production basis. The company also reported that it has achieved seven-figure sales in its first year since launching and has already expanded to 26 global markets partnering with leading retailers including Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus.
Founded in April 2021, LØCI offers biodegradable sneakers for men and women made from recycled ocean plastics. As of date, LØCI has diverted more than 982,000 plastic bottles from landfills and oceans to produce premium durable materials for its sneakers. The company also donates 10% of its profits to wildlife conservation charities as part of its sustainability commitments.
