Walmart partners with Alert innovation, Dematic, and Fabric to develop micro-fulfillment centers

Industry news

  • Walmart has announced plans to develop micro-fulfillment centers with autonomous robots in partnership with several micro-fulfillment solution providers, including Alert innovation, Dematic, and Fabric. The solution is expected to enable the preparation of online orders for curbside pick-up within an hour.

  • The company has not revealed the number of stores that will have micro-fulfillment centers, however, construction has already started at several locations including Lewisville and Plano in Texas, American Fork in Utah, and Bentonville in Arkansas.

  • The robots will be used to pick pantry items, frozen and chilled foods, consumables, as well as electronic items. Employees will continue to pick fresh items and large merchandise items manually.

  • Walmart opened a test site in Salem, New Hampshire in 2018, in partnership with Alert Innovation, a provider of automated grocery picking solutions. As reported by the company, the partnership is likely to continue, while Walmart is also reportedly working with micro-fulfillment solution providers Dematic and Fabric.
