A retail store at the University of Houston has been retrofitted by Standard Cognition (Standard), via a partnership between the university, its dining services partner Chartwells Higher Education and Standard, to enable a cashier-less experience.
The store, now launched as ‘Market Next’, operates 24/7 with students able to walk in, select their items and walk out. The fastest full shopping trip was found to be 2.3 seconds with Standard’s software, which includes cameras mounted on the ceiling and machine-vision software integrated with Boost, Chartwells’ mobile ordering app.
Standard is currently working with Chartwells to integrate their checkout-free technology in other stores located in the US and Canada. Standard previously partnered with Circle K to retrofit a convenience store in August 2020 and has launched a cashier-less convenience store in North Carolina.
