Aave, is a UK-based open-source liquidity protocol that is also behind the decentralized social project Lens Protocol, acquired Sonar, a Web3 gaming developer, for an undisclosed amount.
Sonar, formed out of Y Combinator in 2020, is the developer behind its namesake mobile Web3 metaverse gaming app that allows users to create NFT avatars (Mojis), build worlds, play games, listen to music, and interact with other users. Sonar currently claims to have around 20,000 monthly active users.
Following the acquisition, Aave plans to integrate Sonar with the Lens Protocol, with existing users being able to mint Lens profiles to create a singular identity within its metaverse and log into the game using the same.
In addition, Sonar’s co-founders, Ben South Lee and Randolph Lee will join Aave as senior vice president of product and design, and principal engineer, respectively.
