Waste Management invests in Debrand to expand textile recycling capabilities

Partnerships

  • Waste Management Inc (WM)., a leading traditional waste management services provider in North America, invested an undisclosed amount in Debrand, a Canadian reverse logistics textile solutions provider, to expand recycling capabilities for WM’s customers while supporting the growth of Debrand.

  • The funds will be used to accelerate Debrand's growth in terms of operations, capabilities, customer network, and headcount. Through this investment, which is considered WM’s first strategic investment in textile recycling, the company aims to leverage Debrand’s expertise and technology in textile recycling to increase the scope of recycling capabilities to its customers across North America.

  • Founded in 2008, Debrand offers optimized reverse logistics solutions for retailers and brands using its proprietary software technology—Compass Allocation Engine—which sorts textile waste and returns them into the most suitable out of the six recovery channels—recommerce, factory sales, production donation, material circularity, fiber recycling, and emerging recycling technologies. In 2022 the company is estimated to divert approximately 1,000 tons of used textiles, from landfills through resale, recycling, and repurposing channels, marking 125% Y-o-Y growth.
