Spero Foods launches Pepita Egg at Sprouts Farmers Market

Product updates

  • Spero Foods, a plant-based dairy manufacturer based in California, has announced the launch of its first plant-based egg product, the Pepita Egg, in collaboration with Sprouts Farmer Market. The product will be made available in the refrigerated section at Sprout locations nationwide.

  • The bottled liquid egg product is made using only 7 ingredients, which include pepita (pumpkin seeds) – its main ingredient, water, salt, garlic powder, mushroom extract, beta carotene (for color), and nisin (to preserve quality). According to the company, Pepita Egg is free from common allergens while containing zinc, protein (7g per serving), and iron.

  • Spero claims the Pepita Egg is the first and only clean-label egg product that is pourable and can be used for cooking or baking. The 16 oz product (equivalent to ~12 eggs) is set to initially retail between USD 4.99–5.99 which falls within the same range as alternative egg brand JUSTEgg but is 54% more expensive than traditional eggs available at Walmart.
