Freepoint Eco-Systems, a Texas-based company that uses advanced recycling technology to secure and recycle plastic, launched construction of its first commercial-scale flagship advanced plastics recycling facility located in Hebron, Ohio.
The plant, which is international sustainability and carbon certification (ISCC) plus certified, will operate using Freepoint’s proprietary pyrolysis technology, at a capacity of around 90,000 metric tons of recycled waste plastic per year, generating 90% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuel-based plastic.
The plant will be built in an existing 260,000 sqft warehouse, spanning 25 acres, and is expected to create 200 construction jobs in Ohio in 2023 and 70 full-time jobs upon the start of its operations in H1 2024.
All recycled plastic feedstock from the new plant is set to be sold to Shell as per a long-term supply agreement signed by the two companies in early 2022.
Analyst QuickTake: Freepoint has another advanced plastic recycling unit under construction in Texas, in collaboration with Freepoint Eco-Systems and TotalEnergies slated to begin operations in mid-2024. The new plant is the latest of Freepoint’s efforts to expand its advanced recycling footprint in the US.
