Redshield Electronics and LSA Autonomy, two agricultural technology companies, merged to form MACH, which aims to convert farm equipment into self-driving vehicles. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
MACH, based in the Iowa State University Research Park in Ames, will collaborate with equipment manufacturers to transform tractors and other farming and off-highway equipment into self-driving vehicles for farmers.
The two companies involved in the merger have different areas of expertise in the self-driving vehicle industry. Redshield Electronics primarily served the agricultural sector, whereas LSA Autonomy was founded to address autonomy needs across multiple U.S. government sectors.
Colin Hurd, the founder and CEO of Smart Ag, a driverless tractor company acquired by Raven Industries in late 2019, will serve as CEO of the newly formed company. Rhett Schildroth, who founded and led Redshield Electronics, will remain at MACH as chief technology officer.
Redshield Electronics specializes in providing autonomous solutions for agriculture and landscaping. The company’s products include a vehicle control unit (VCU), a vision module, and mission control software.
