HTC announced the launch of its mixed-reality headset, the Vive XR Elite, which is set to retail at USD 1,100.
The Vive XR Elite allows users to switch between standard VR games and those that use color passthrough AR, specifically targeting consumer segments such as fitness, gaming, and productivity. Users will have the option of purchasing an eye-tracking and full face-tracking accessory with the XR Elite.
The development of the Vive XR Elite represents a shift in consumer segments targeted by the company, with previous renditions of the product being focused on arcade-style location-based entertainment and industrial VR.
Analyst QuickTake : Meta announced the Quest Pro in Q3 2022, and the headset’s highlighted feature was its full-color passthrough capability, where four outer cameras will capture and display the user’s surroundings in high resolution. HTC’s device keeps up with the Quest Pro on this while retailing at a lower price point. However, HTC does not seem to have solved the Quest Pro’s biggest drawback–its one- to two-hour battery life.
