PureCycle Technologies, a producer of recycled polypropylene resin, together with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges announced plans to build its first polypropylene (PP) recycling facility in Europe, as part of PureCycle's global growth strategy. This announcement follows Purecycle being awarded a concessionaire contract during a competitive bid selection process by the NextGen district in Belgium where the plant is set to be located.
The new plant, expected to operate at an annual capacity of 59,000 metric tons, is situated in a 14-hectare plot that can support four processing lines, allowing the plant to expand its operations to a total capacity of ~240,000 metric tons per year.
Through the new plant, PureCycle aims to introduce its ultra-pure recycled (UPR) resin to the European market while creating 65–70 new jobs for local residents during the initial phase of the project slated to launch in 2024, upon completion of the permitting process and securing a final project timeline by mid-2023.
