Carbios partners with Novozymes for industrial-scale biorecycling of PET

Partnerships

  • French biotech company, Carbios, has partnered with Novozymes, a leading provider of biological solutions, for the long-term production and supply of Carbios’ proprietary PET-degrading enzymes at an industrial scale for Carbios’ new biological PET-recycling plant and future licensees of Carbios’ technology. This plant—considered the world’s first of its kind—is slated to start production in 2025 with a processing capacity of 50,000 metric tons of waste per year.

  • This collaboration is an extension of the two companies’ initial partnership in 2019 to develop a sustainable solution for PET-recycling and PLA-biodegradation, followed by a joint development agreement in 2020 , making Novozymes the long-term exclusive supplier of plastics-degrading enzymes to Carbios.
