PLAI Labs, developer of social platforms, raised USD 32 million in a seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).
It aims to use the funds to expand its team and recruit developers to build its DeSo platform that will utilize Web3 and generative AI technologies. The platform will support user-generated content (UGC), player matchmaking, and 2D and 3D rendering.
The first application it is developing for the platform is called Champions Ascension, a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) currently in the pre-alpha phase. The game allows players to transfer their existing NFT characters and go on quests, trade items, fight, and build their own custom dungeons.
PLAI Labs was formed by Chris DeWolfe and Aber Whitcomb, two industry veterans who founded MySpace (social media platform) and Jam City (game studio). The company is focused on building the next generation of social platforms and believes these will begin with games.
