Texas-based space debris management and space services company Intuitive Machines entered into an agreement with California-based asteroid mining company AstroForge, to deliver its Brokkr-2 deep space vehicle for observation of one of AstroForge’s target asteroids in deep space.
The launch of Brokkr-2 is expected to take place during Intuitive Machines’ lunar mission in 2H 2023, where the deep space vehicle will be launched via the secondary payload adapter (SPA) of the evolved expendable launch vehicle (EELV) once the launch vehicle is separated from the lunar lander.
Founded in 2022, AstroForge is a space mining startup focusing on deep space exploration. The company has two missions planned for 2023 and claims it will be the first to venture into deep space to explore the potential of deep-space mining. The company was a part of the Y combinator W22 cohort and raised USD 13 million in funding to date.
