Plenty announces the closure of its south San Francisco vertical farming facility

Management news

  • Plenty, which sells greens and herbs and operates a hydroponic farming system, has announced the closure of its south San Francisco facility.

  • The company will relocate all manufacturing to its Compton, California facility while maintaining a retail presence in the Bay Area. The company also stated that although a limited number of roles would be made redundant, it would provide career placement opportunities, retention bonuses, and severance packages to affected team members.

  • Analyst QuickTake: In September 2022 , Plenty announced plans to build the world’s largest indoor vertical farm campus in Richmond, Virginia. However, the closure of Plenty's San Francisco facility represents a significant setback for the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) industry. 80 Acres Farms also announced layoffs earlier this month
