Apple will reportedly allow users to create augmented reality apps by speaking to the MR headsets voice assistant Siri and create 3D models from iPhone photos and RoomPlan (for virtual floor plans).
The tool is reported to allow users to create an app featuring virtual animals that are able to move around a room, without the need for designing the animal or programming its animations or movements in 3D space. Further, the camera on the headset will enable users to scan their environment and import objects that are in the room, to add them to the app.
The AR tool is said to use technology from Fabric Software, which Apple acquired in 2017. Fabric Engine, developed by Fabric, enabled developers to generate environments and objects using procedural generation. Peter Zion, a Fabric co-founder, is said to be overseeing the tool's development. In 2016 Apple also acquired DigitalRune, aimed at simplifying 3D game development.
