Nth Cycle, a Massachusetts-based startup that processes and recycles metals, has announced a premium mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) nickel intermediary product for nickel sulfate producers, manufactured using the company's patented electro-extraction process, named "The Oyster." This is expected to be the first MHP offered in the US.
The company claims its MHP to have a higher concentration of Nickel Hydroxide and Cobalt Hydroxide, with over 90% of Nickel-Cobalt Hydroxide compared to 30–40% Nickel and 1–6% Cobalt in typical MHP. The refining process is also said to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% compared to traditional mining processes and meets the domestic sourcing and recycled content requirements of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.
Nth Cycle plans to begin production in late 2023, aiming to co-locate at customer sites for feedstock sourcing and product return.
