Plenty receives USD 20 million grant to build vertical farming research center

Funding

  • Plenty, a California-based hydroponic farming operator, received a  USD 20 million grant from the Wyoming Business Council to the City of Laramie, to establish a vertical farming research center in Laramie, Wyoming.

  • The grant will be used to cover construction and infrastructure costs of the 60,000 sq feet research facility built on a 16-acre land, which is claimed to double Plenty’s research capacity. Further, this facility will enable the diversification of research environments and support the transition of new crops to commercial farms.

  • The company plans to add 125 jobs at the facility over the next six years, including science, research, engineering, and data analysis. The facility is expected to begin construction later this year and is slated to open in early 2025.
