LyondellBasell and KIRKBI invest in APK to develop recycling technology

Funding

  • LyondellBasell, a global chemical industry leader, and Kirkbi, the LEGO brand's family-owned holding and investment company, have agreed to invest in APK, which specializes in low-density polyethylene recycling technology (LDPE).

  • Under the agreement, LyondellBasell and KIRKBI will become minority shareholders in APK and, along with other co-investors, will invest approximately EUR 130 million in the company. In addition, Newcyling Plants are planned to be built to increase the production capacity.

  • Founded in 2008, APK aims to increase the recycling of multi-layer flexible packaging materials. APK has developed the Newcycling process, which separates the different polymers of multi-layer packaging materials and produces recycled materials suitable for new packaging materials.
