Blue Origin, a Washington-based space travel and space launch startup founded by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, announced its New Glenn rocket, which has been awarded the Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers (ESCAPADE) contract by NASA’s Launch Service Program (LSP).
This task order was handed through NASA’s Venture-Class Acquisition of Dedicated Rideshare (VADR) program. Blue Origin joined VADR in January 2022 on an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract.
ESCAPADE—a twin-spacecraft class D mission—is part of the NASA Small Innovative Missions for Planetary Exploration (SIMPLEX) program and will conduct a Martian magnetosphere study examining solar wind transfers.
