Fischer Farms, a UK-based vertical farming company, announced the success of its first trial of growing wheat, claiming to be the country's first vertical farm to cultivate the crop in a biosecure, controlled environment.
The company states that a 10-acre vertical farm can grow 273 acres of conventionally-grown wheat. Fischer Farms intends to grow soya beans, rice, and wheat in significant quantities at competitive prices, with plans to scale up operations and reduce the cost base.
Founded in 2018, Fischer Farms is a UK-based vertical farming company producing short-leaf salad and herb products, including lettuce, rocket, watercress, chard, basil, dill, and parsley. The company operates two farms: one in Lichfield and the other in Norwich, with growing areas of 3,200 sq m and 25,000 sq m, respectively.
