Freshbay, an automated hydroponic smart farm, expects to open a deep earth geothermal-powered 19-acre controlled environment agriculture (CEA) facility in Hinton, Alberta, in January 2024. The company would use vertical farming technologies, greenhouses, and scientific horticulture procedures to create 100% sustainable operations that will grow herbs, strawberries, and tropical fruits.
The company claims that this will be the first project of its kind in the US to harness deep-earth geothermal energy for mass production in remote regions. Freshbay expects to create 450 full-time jobs.
Novus Earth Energy, a renewable energy solutions provider, has agreed to serve as a strategic partner in the management of geothermal well drilling, installation, and maintenance. F&G Strategic Partners would put together a suitable funding structure to provide the project with a capital debt facility, while Canada Banana Farms, a leading producer of exotic fruits, will oversee the cultivation of fresh fruits.
Founded in 2020, Freshbay is a cutting-edge agriculture company that uses vertical farming, greenhouses, and sustainable energy sources to grow various fresh herbs, strawberries, and tropical fruits all year round.
