Google launched its graphics rendering service for XR titled “Immersive Stream” powered by Google Cloud’s graphics processing units.
Immersive Stream is designed to provide high-quality photorealistic AR for any smartphone, which will eliminate the need for devices to have powerful hardware or special applications to access 3D or AR worlds. The service also supports Unreal Engine 5, which will allow companies to create larger and more realistic AR experiences.
The technology also powers the "immersive view" feature in Google Maps and is being used by Google Cloud customers to create various shopping experiences such as visualizing new appliances in a home or configuring a new vehicle.
Analyst QuickTake : Immersive Stream will enable the democratization of AR technology for consumers and accelerate product development within the space, given its accessibility across all smartphones. The announcement also succeeds Google’s partnerships with Telstra and Accenture for the development of 5 G-powered AR wayfinding experiences in May 2022 , helping to cement the company’s position as an AR platform powerhouse.
