AeroFarms, a company producing leafy greens using an aeroponic vertical growing system, opened AeroFarms AgX, its newest indoor vertical farm, focused on bringing innovative R&D to the UAE and the Middle East. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) supports the facility as part of its goal to create sustainable investment opportunities to advance next-generation agriculture in arid and desert environments.
The 65,000 sq ft AeroFarms AgX facility has made some key local hires, aiming to employ more than 60 people. AeroFarms AgX hopes to significantly contribute to Abu Dhabi's AgTech ecosystem by collaborating on research projects with local companies and universities to address agricultural issues in the desert and arid climates.
AeroFarms AgX aims to become a center of innovation by collaborating with strategic partners such as Cargill and the Foundation for Food & Agriculture (FFAR) Precision Indoor Plants (PIP) Consortium for R&D. Furthermore, AeroFarms collaborated with Silal, one of Abu Dhabi's largest holding companies with a diverse portfolio of major sectors, to improve the genetics and seedling quality of vegetable and fruit varieties and evaluate and test crops with high consumer demand, such as tomatoes and peppers.
