Alterra, an Ohio-based plastic recycling startup, announced its license arrangement with a subsidiary of Freepoint Eco-Systems, a Texas-based company that uses advanced recycling technology to secure and recycle plastic, for a proposed 192,000 tonnes per annum advanced plastics recycling facility in the Gulf Coast region. Alterra will enter its first licensing agreement in the US with this Freepoint initiative.
The company claims that with the ability to expand to 288,000 tonnes annually, this facility will be among the largest advanced recycling operations in the world.
The factory will recycle end-of-life plastic that would otherwise be destined for landfills or burnt and sell its products entirely to Shell, a global provider of a variety of base, intermediate, and performance chemicals, under a supply agreement.
