After the merger with Velodyne, Ouster, a LiDAR sensor manufacturer, has announced restructuring measures to cut costs. The measures include a layoff affecting around 180–200 employees and consolidating some facilities, including Velodyne's facility in India.
The restructuring is expected to result in charges totaling ~USD 27 million–USD 30 million, with most of the charges expected to be recognized in Q1 2023.
These initiatives will streamline the organization and align resources with its new priorities, post-merger.
Analyst QuickTake: Ouster recently announced its plans to focus more on LiDAR for smart infrastructure, as opposed to automotive-grade LiDAR targeted toward self-driving cars and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), post-merger. We believe the restructuring plans will help the company further align its resources with this shift in its focus.
