Sulzer, a leading fuel engineering company, has signed an agreement with circular technology company, Fuenix Ecogy, to acquire a stake in its plastic upcycling business.
The acquisition would allow Sulzer Chemtech (established licensor of reaction and separation technologies aimed at driving the chemical recycling of materials) to offer complete and partial recycling lines based on Fuenix's Ecogy pyrolysis technology and Sulzer’s separation and purification solutions. Simultaneously, Sulzer Chemtech will continue to provide its separation and purification expertise and solutions to other plastic-recycling technologies.
Sulzer would also contribute its technical expertise to scaling up and commercializing a cutting-edge pyrolysis technology. The agreement also broadens Sulzer Chemtech's technology-licensing portfolio for polymer processing.
Founded in 2013, Fuenix Ecogy is a Dutch circular technology company that converts sorted end-of-life mixed plastic waste into raw materials that can be used to create new plastic that is 100% circular. The company operates a recycling plant in Weert. The company's Ecogy process cracks the polymers in plastic to a molecular level from which they can upcycle end-of-life plastics and create new raw materials.
