Global e-commerce giant, Amazon, completed the acquisition of primary care provider, One Medical, for USD 3.9 billion after receiving clearance from the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC will continue to investigate the merger for possible harm to competition and consumers. The deal was completed seven months after the initial announcement in July 2022.
Amazon plans to offer a 28% discount to One Medical memberships for US users to USD 144 from USD 199 for the first year.
The acquisition allows Amazon to expand its healthcare offerings, sell healthcare services to employers, and operate physical medical clinics. It expands Amazon's reach into primary care, operating 188 clinics in 29 markets.
This move marks another stride in Amazon's foray into the healthcare space, as it has already launched a range of healthcare-related initiatives, including the recently closed Amazon Care offering for employers, and the newly launched Amazon Clinic.
