Electric vehicle and clean energy company, Tesla, has paused the rollout of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta software in the US and Canada, following the recall of the system announced earlier this month.
Accordingly, all new or pending installations will be halted until the company issues an over-the-air (OTA) software update correcting the issues pointed out at the time of the recall—which was around the possibility of crashes as the system reportedly fails to adhere to traffic safety laws adequately. The software update will be offered free of charge to its customers.
Analyst QuickTake: The recall of the vehicles was a fresh setback for Tesla’s FSD, which faces growing regulatory and public scrutiny. Tesla is under investigation by the NHTSA following a series of crashes involving Tesla cars, of which many were fatal. The California State government is also targeting Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD’s branding , as the terms suggest fully autonomous operations although it requires the driver to be present and maintain full vigilance. Tesla rolled out its FSD Beta across the US just three months ago.
