California-based space travel and launch services provider, Rocket Lab, has secured a multi-launch deal from leading provider of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery, Capella Space, for the four Electron missions in rapid succession.
Slated for launch in 2H 2023, each Electron mission will be tasked with deploying a single SAR Earth-imaging Acadia satellite to low-earth orbit (LEO). Having flown a dedicated mission for Capella Space back in August 2020, the new launches will be preceded by an existing launch for Capella Space by Rocket Lab aboard its “Stronger Together” mission scheduled for March 2023.
While the new missions are planned for liftoff from Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, the company has provided Capella Space with the flexibility to move any of the four launches to its Launch Complex 2 in Wallops Island, Virginia, if required.
