Next Gen Foods, a plant-based meat brand known for its plant-based chicken product TiNDLE, acquired dairy-free gelato producer Mwah for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition comes two years after Next Gen made its initial investment in Mwah.
Having led Mwah’s USD 2 million seed funding round in 2022, Next-Gen Foods plans to expand into the dairy-free product segment and thereby diversify its product offering through this acquisition. On the other hand, Mwah will use Next Gen’s existing distribution channels to facilitate its expansion into key markets, including the UK.
Mwah founders Damian Piedrahita and Claudia Comini will join as Next Gen shareholders following these transactions and will oversee R&D and business expansion of the brand while remaining as heads of Mwah.
Founded in 2020, Mwah is a London-based startup developing plant-based dairy-free ice cream that claims to resemble the flavor and texture of traditional dairy ice cream. As of March 2023, the company developed one product—Madagascan Vanilla Gelato—which is expected to be on display at Expo West in Anaheim following the company’s acquisition.
