Matchday, a developer of football games using Web3 technologies, raised USD 21 million in a seed funding round that saw participation from Courtside Ventures, Greylock, HackVC, Capricorn Investment Group, and Horizons Ventures.
The company aims to use the fresh capital to develop a suite of Web3-based football games.
Formed in 2022, Matchday was incubated by Play Time, the venture capital company of Lionel Messi. It builds games for football fans featuring officially licensed players and tournaments, in partnership with FIFA and FIFPRO. Its upcoming releases include Matchday Play and Matchday Squads, which are based on the football management experience.
