Wingspan, a payroll, benefits, and onboarding platform, has raised USD 14 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from investors including Distributed Ventures, Long Journey Ventures, Ludlow Ventures, and 186 Ventures.
The funds are earmarked for product expansion and hiring, as it plans to double its 20-person team by the end of this year.
Wingspan is an all-in-one platform that combines payroll, benefits, and onboarding services for freelancers, replacing the need for multiple tools used by mid-market businesses. Employers can invite contractors via email, perform background checks, and allow freelancers to add their bank account and other necessary e-signed documents. Additionally, the platform generates and files contractor 1099 tax forms with automated workflows. Currently, it serves more than 20,000 members on the platform across “hundreds” of enterprise clients.
