Soul Wallet, a self-custodial Ethereum-focused wallet, raised USD 3 million in a seed funding round with participation from Struck Crypto, NGC Ventures, Alchemy, Ankr, and notable angel investors such as Ryan Sean Adams (Bankless) and Kristof Gazso (co-author of ERC-4337), among others.
The company is currently testing its wallet internally and is scheduled to launch it in Q3 or Q4 this year after a series of stringent audits.
The wallet is built on top of the ERC-4337 standard, which brings smart contract capabilities to wallets through a process called “account abstraction.” This removes the need to generate recovery seed phrases for self-custodial wallets, making it possible for users to recover their accounts via social recovery, such as using one’s trusted contacts, another wallet, or even a third-party service.
Soul Wallet was founded by Jiajun Zeng, a former product manager at TikTok’s parent firm ByteDance and Chinese on-demand services giant Meituan. The company currently has 12 employees spanning across the US, Japan, Thailand, and China.
