Honda has expanded its partnership with South Korean steelmaker POSCO Holdings to explore the supply of materials for cathodes and anodes (the core components of batteries) and battery recycling technology.
The two companies will exchange technical knowledge on future battery materials, cooperate in procuring key battery materials, expand the use of recycled materials to achieve a low-carbon society, and establish a closed-loop recycling system that utilizes reclaimed battery materials. The companies will also collaborate on the adoption of ultra-high tensile automotive steel sheets and electric steel sheets for e-Axle drive motors.
Analyst QuickTake: Honda also partnered with Ascend Elements in February 2023 to receive supply of recycled lithium-ion battery materials for its EVs in the US, supporting its goal of achieving "zero environmental impact" by 2050.
