Honda partners with POSCO for recycling of EV battery materials

Partnerships

  • Honda has expanded its partnership with South Korean steelmaker POSCO Holdings to explore the supply of materials for cathodes and anodes (the core components of batteries) and battery recycling technology.

  • The two companies will exchange technical knowledge on future battery materials, cooperate in procuring key battery materials, expand the use of recycled materials to achieve a low-carbon society, and establish a closed-loop recycling system that utilizes reclaimed battery materials. The companies will also collaborate on the adoption of ultra-high tensile automotive steel sheets and electric steel sheets for e-Axle drive motors.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Honda also partnered with Ascend Elements in February 2023 to receive supply of recycled lithium-ion battery materials for its EVs in the US, supporting its goal of achieving "zero environmental impact" by 2050.
