Luminar Technologies announces high-volume LiDAR factory in China

Geographic expansion

  • Luminar Technologies, a manufacturer of LiDAR sensors, has partnered with TPK, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of electrical components and supplier to companies like Apple and Tesla, to build and operate a new high-volume LiDAR factory in China to meet the growing demand for Luminar's products in Asia.

  • The new factory is capable of producing up to 600,000 LiDAR sensors annually, with the potential to expand for demand increases. The sensors produced by the factory will be supplied to support awarded programs from automakers including Mercedes-Benz.

  • The new factory will expand Luminar’s global manufacturing footprint, which now spans across the US, Mexico, China, and Thailand.

  • The company also recently announced its partnership with Volvo in unveiling the new Volvo EX90 , which will be equipped with Luminar LiDAR as a standard for next-generation safety and autonomous capabilities.
