VR game development studio Vinci Games raised USD 5.1 million in a seed financing led by Makers Fund, with participation from Y Combinator, Soma Capital, Pioneer Fund, Anorak Ventures, BonAngels, and Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin.
Funds are earmarked for the development of Vinci Games' Blacktop Hoops, an arcade basketball VR game.
Vinci Games specializes in the development of VR sports games. Its first game, Blacktop Hoops, is currently in Open Beta and provides users with a socially-driven VR basketball experience with game mechanics such as dribbling, dunking, and shooting, which are specifically designed for VR. Additionally, players can customize their avatars and courts with new emotes, custom courts, and dunk explosions. The beta version of the game also features player-versus-player (PvP) multiplayer modes.
Analyst QuickTake: Since the game's alpha launch, Blacktop Hoops has become the second most popular App Lab app with a four-point-nine rating having garnered over 9,000 reviews and a 90% positive rating on Steam. The game will continue in Open Beta until the release of limited single-player and multiplayer modes, which is expected toward the end of 2022. The final release of the game is set to offer a single-player campaign with 12 AI opponents, multiple training modes, ranked online multiplayer, three game environments, a 12-song soundtrack, and over 100 sneaker collectibles.
