Israel to approve Remilk's animal-free milk protein as the country's first

Product updates
FDA approval

  • Remilk, an Israeli producer of plant-based dairy products through microbial fermentation,  is set to receive approval to produce animal-free milk proteins in the country. The company, which uses precision fermentation and microbes to produce milk proteins, will become the first in Israel to get approval to produce cow-free milk.

  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the approval for Remilk's animal-free milk proteins during a visit to Steakholder Foods, an Israeli-cultivated meat company that invested in Remilk.

  • Remilk achieved regulatory approvals from Singapore and the US Food and Drug Administration regarding the safety of its animal-free whey and launched with General Mill’s bran Bold Cultr introducing a line of cream cheese in Minnesota, US, last year. However, the company will still require other approvals from regulatory bodies in Israel before its products appear on store shelves.
