iFarm, a Finnish company that develops software and hardware for vertical farming and hydroponics, has partnered with Opus 2G Group, a Mexican company that provides solutions to strengthen the management of water, renewable energies, and food. The partnership aims to build an automated high-tech vertical farm in the Smart City of Tehuantepec, Mexico.
The pilot farm to be launched in the Smart City of Tehuantepec in 2024 will use iFarm's StackGrow technology and a hydroponics vertical farming system to grow over 35 types of leafy greens and microgreens. With a cultivation area of 38,500 sq m, it is expected to become the world's largest vertical farm and yield over 288 tons of crops per month.
The two companies also plan to build 22 automated vertical farms in the Smart City of Tehuantepec by 2028, including a variety of crops such as berries, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medical plants. The companies will also conduct a joint investigation to develop an indoor farming system for coffee and cocoa beans.
Founded in 2017, iFarm provides technology solutions for vertical farming in controlled environments. They work with indoor farm projects of varying sizes, from 500 sq m to 50,000 sq m, offering turnkey solutions to grow leafy greens, strawberries, and vegetables using farm management software. iFarm also provides a range of services including financial modeling, market research, consulting on vertical farming business plans, concept design, and technological design solutions.
