Redwood Materials, a Nevada-based e-waste recycling startup, has partnered with e-bike manufacturer Rad Power Bikes to launch an electric bike battery recycling program. Redwood Materials will reuse up to 95% of the critical metals found in batteries to help Rad Power Bikes build more e-bikes and EVs.
As part of the partnership, Rad Power Bikes will ship the old lithium-ion batteries to Redwood Materials for recycling, refining, and repurposing. Select Rad Retail locations will be equipped with collection bins for small-format lithium-ion batteries as well.
This battery collection service is currently offered in-store, requiring physical drop-off of the batteries, with plans to expand the service online.
Analyst QuickTake: This partnership builds on Redwood Materials' previous collaborations with Flite (January 2023) and Lyft (November 2022) to recycle end-of-life e-foil, e-bike, and scooter batteries by having customers return them.
